With his experience in Judo and Full contact karate he decided to create completely new martial art which would be realistic and incorporate many techniques from various Martial Arts. He has established Daido-juku as kakuto-karate (combat karate) which became Kudo later

KUDO is a martial art founded by Grand Master Takashi Azuma. Originally, it was established as “KAKUTO KARATE (Combat KARATE)”.
It was often expressed as martial-arts mixed full contact KARATE, with boxing and JUDO. However, as Development of KAKUTO KARATE with import of more new techniques like ground fight, striking with grappling, etc, it had became different thing with what we call “KARATE”,aspect of techniques and also, concept.
Hokutoki all japan tournament. competitor wears “GI”,headgear, and fist guard. KUDO is realistic but based on certain safety.
Since KUDO aims to be the most realistic martial art, various techniques are permitted. Punch, throws, and joint locks, even head butt, elbow strike and so on. Therefore, KUDO is very effective as a self-defense technique.
However, it doesn’t need to be dangerous thoughtlessly. Athletes use special protective gear which keeps them safe during sparring or competition. In addition, the rules forbid some dangerous technique like pound and backdrop. Of course, at daily training, especially for beginners.
KUDO is a 武道“BUDO”, not just sports to compare “who is the best”. It is the most important that an ordinary parson (Like a business parson, a student. Not a professional fighter) is able to become“better” not only physically, but also mentally. Today, KUDO is very popular as a physical education system.
