We are pleased to announce that the 2nd “Our Youth Daidōjuku” Event will be held at Tōdōkan in Sugamo. The last time we held this event was back in July 2019, so it’s been a full seven years—time really does fly.In January 2024, I took on the role of Head of Public Relations for Daidōjuku. Since then, I’ve been actively promoting the core concept of Daidōjuku: "Daidō Mumon" (The Great Way Has No Gate), and continually asking the question: “What is Daidōjuku?”This time, we are honored to welcome Kenichi Nagata, the current head of Daidōjuku, as a speaker. With his presence, I wanted to focus on Daidōjuku’s and his own position in the martial arts world from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s. I believe this will provide valuable insights into the question, “What is Daidōjuku today? Where did it come from, and where is it headed?”To talk about one's place in history, you need perspective—especially from the outside. So for this event, we’ve invited two distinguished guests from outside Daidōjuku—martial artists and fighters who had significant interactions with Daidōjuku and made history in the world of martial arts during that era. We’ve asked them to share their stories and perspectives to the fullest. To be honest, a major reason for inviting them is simply that I’m a huge fan of both of them.If you see the lineup and think, “Whoa! This is incredible!”, chances are you’re somewhere in your mid-50s to early 60s—the generation that lived through those times, felt the excitement, were deeply moved, and cheered with joy. (Or perhaps you're someone who studies martial arts history?)How many people will actually be interested now? Honestly—I don’t know. But that’s okay. I’m part of that “core generation.” I’m someone whose life was changed by witnessing those battles firsthand. So above all, I want to see this myself. I want to be there.People often say to me, “Your projects are too niche—they go against the times.” But I don’t care! (laughs)I want to preserve the essence of martial arts and combat sports for the next 50, 100, even 1,000 years. That’s the deeper meaning behind this event. But more than anything—I’m doing it because I want to see it.Everything I create—magazines, books, videos, events—comes from one simple question: Would I want to read it, watch it, or experience it?Profit?
